Well, I moved to New York (Brooklyn) on Thursday! My flight got in very early, so that (combined with the time difference) made for a blurry next few days. To start things off, here's a little doodle outlining my move:
I spent my very first day sleeping, moving in, and buying groceries. I got out to explore the neighborhood a little bit, but it didn't feel very "IT'S MY FIRST DAY IN NEW YORK!" It just felt boring.
My first impressions of my neighborhood, Bushwick, was that it reminded me a lot of Dalston in London. The crowd is a mix of people who look local and average, and people who look like artists and probably are. Both crowds make me feel incredibly unhip so I haven't really explored the area much yet. I'll wait till I have a few more friends to come with me!
The area is obviously gentrifying quickly: I live around the corner from a Natural Foods Store, and down the street from an abandoned warehouse. The natural foods store is, naturally, expensive; but I was happy to see they sell Hobnobs and McVities tea biscuts !!! (yet another reason the are reminds me of Dalston)<3
Anyways, I spent the past few days shopping online, at Bed Bath & Beyond, and Williamsburg. Here's how my room looks so far:
I'm obsessed with this weird crystal lamp that I saw online and thought about buying for a second, but then decided that it was kind of a risky purchase, because is it really my *vibe* ? But then I got a Bed Bath and Beyond gift card and realized that it wasn't that expensive, so I just bought it! Apparently.... IT CLEANS THE AIR?? I was gonna buy an air purifier because I'm a hypochondriac and worried that the New York air is gonna kill me (lol!) but now I'm just gonna believe in that little crystal lamp. If I can convince myself that I have eight different life-threatening diseases, than surely I can convince myself that this little crystal lamp will protect me from air pollution. You can buy one here.
The vibe for my room is hard to explain, but I want it to look something like this:
So there you have it. That's what it's like to move across the country, apparently! Everything is coming together nicely. And, being here is not as scary as I thought, but it's gonna get FREAKY if I don't get a job soon.
